Contributor to The Onion
Tax Fairness and comedy writing, a natural fit! In her political advocacy work, Maura serves as Americans for Tax Fairness's Wealth Tax Campaign Director, working with the coalition to advance legislation to create a fair tax code. Prior to joining ATF, she served as the Executive Director of Tax March and was one of the founding members of the organization in 2017. In her role at Tax March, she worked to popularize the "Tax the Rich" movement and shift the Overton window on the possibility of progressive economic priorities. She is committed to the fight for economic justice and focused on the intersection of taxes and the tangible well-being of working families and individuals around the country. Maura currently also serves as a member of the Advisory Board of Tax March as well as a member of the Pennsylvania Working Families Party Endorsement Committee. As a writer, she has also led rooms of comedy writers in service of bringing humor to progressive activism and regularly contributes to a variety of publications. She also writes on social issues, parenting and utter nonsense. Her McSweeney's piece "How to Ask For a Raise If You're A Woman" was featured as one of the sites most-read pieces of 2016. Her tweets have regularly been featured on year-end "funniest Twitter accounts" in publications including Slate and Rolling Stone. She's a regular contributor to the show StandUp! with Pete Dominick and has been a guest on numerous podcasts and news programs, including On The Media, and The Damage Report with Jon Iandarola. She resides in Pennsylvania with her children and the occasional houseplant that hasn't died off yet.
